About Little and Large

Little and Large is a new trumpet/tuba, brass duo from Dallas, TX. Matthew Otte (trumpet) and Mark Jeffrey (tuba) are both Dallas-based musicians and teachers. Mark Jeffrey is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance and Music Education at The University of North Texas. Mark is currently on the private lesson staff at Flower Mound High School, Shadow Ridge Middle School, Cockrill Middle School, and several other schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He currently performs on tuba with The Dallas Civic Wind Ensemble and on Trombone with the Frisco Jazz Band. He has performed with the Danville (IL) Symphony Orchestra, and Sinfonia da Camera. Mark received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his primary teachers include Mark Moore, and Donald Little.

Matthew Otte moved to Texas in 2007 to study with Keith Johnson at the University of North Texas. Since graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in 2012, Matthew has been an active performer and educator in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He maintains an active studio that ranges from beginners through advanced high school students. Matthew has performed with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of New Spain, Dallas Civic Wind Ensemble, and the Lone Star Wind Ensemble.

Otte and Jeffrey have both performed and recorded with the University of North Texas Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony, including on various volumes of resource recordings for the "Teaching Music through Performance" series.

The two originally met in middle school at The University of New Hampshire's Summer Youth Music School, and after playing together in other musical settings, they have recently joined together as a duo with their love for chamber music. Their interest in new music led them to commission a piece by James Grant, with additional support from the Songs Without Words No. 7 Commissioning Consortium, that was published in the summer of 2016 by Potenza Music Publishing. Matthew and Mark hope to continue to expand the literature for the instrumentation and to keep creating new music.
